Hi, I’m Shane

As a dedicated community member and family man, I’ve proudly called Brinsmead and Redlynch home for the past thirty years, alongside my wife Samantha and our seven children.

Throughout my career, I’ve seen significant success, particularly in the local restaurant industry with establishments like ‘Pearls On The Pier’ and ‘Fox & Firkin.’ Additionally, as the chairperson of the ‘Venue Managers Association,’ I focused on reducing alcohol-related crime and violence in the Cairns CBD, leaving a positive impact on the community.

In the realm of real estate, I serve as the principal and co-owner of a highly successful agency in Redlynch, recognised for providing trusted and reliable advice to those buying and selling homes.

My goal in running for council is to bring a dynamic shift, believing that a diverse and balanced team is essential in meeting the growing needs of Cairns while maintaining its unique identity. I am driven by a desire to make a positive impact on the city, ensuring its future prosperity by offering Division 6 a councillor who is both accessible and accountable. I’m ready to stand up and advocate for the needs of Division 6.

Words I live by

Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life

Authentic

Authenticity is a fundamental core value for me. I believe in being true to who I am and what I stand for, unapologetically. It’s important because authenticity is the bedrock of trust and genuine connections. Whether it’s in my business endeavours, my community engagement, or even my quirky sense of humour, I find that being authentic not only allows me to connect with people on a deeper level, but also reinforces my commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.

Accessible

For me, accessibility is all about meeting people where they are, ensuring easy access to information, support, and engagement, regardless of their background or circumstances. Why is it important to me? Because I believe in creating an inclusive environment where everyone’s voices can be heard, fostering genuine connections, and addressing the diverse needs of the community. Whether it’s in my business ventures, community initiatives, or political aspirations, my dedication to accessibility reflects my commitment to breaking down barriers and making sure that everyone feels welcome and empowered to engage.

Accountable

Accountability is about taking responsibility for one’s actions and decisions, being transparent, and answerable to the people you serve. Obviously, very important when you’re entrusted with the responsibility of representing the community.  It not only fosters trust, integrity, and a sense of reliability, it role-models effective leadership for our leaders of tomorrow. As a father of seven, role modelling positive behaviours is important to me. Being accountable means not just making promises, but actively following through on them, and that is what I will do. Listen and act.
